School District of Lancaster launches new app to track bus routes

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. – The School District of Lancaster is using Stopfinder to give eligible parents and guardians the ability to track their children’s bus routes in real time.

The app is invite-only for families with students who qualify for district transportation services.

“It is an app that syncs directly with our transportation management software,” said Adam Aurand, director of communications at SDoL. “The key is parents can, can track where their kids’ bus is, whether the bus is on the way to pick up or drop off or has already done so.”

While the app notifies parents and guardians about bus routes, it also allows two-way communication with the transportation department.

“If they have concerns about the way other motorists are driving around a particular bus stop, you know, they can use this app to communicate directly with the transportation department to either move or change the timing of the stop,” said Aurand.

The district says the app will cost it $12,500 per year.

Currently, there are 663 parents and guardians who have downloaded the app.

Finalized transportation schedules were published in the app on Aug. 15. The first day of school for the School District of Lancaster is Aug. 19.
